Losing weight and getting faster – through less weight

Running helps you to lose weight, and weighing less simply makes running easier, meaning that you can exercise more often and become faster. With less weight, you also put less strain on your joints, helping you avoid injury. You should take advantage of this.

If you look at the bodies of world-class runners for mid- to long-range races, you will see that they are almost all very slim. For men, fat percentage is around 6-8%, and it is around 8-15% for women. On average, healthy men have a fat percentage of 12-22%, while fit and healthy women have a body fat percentage of 18-28%.

If you want to lose weight, remember that your body shape is significantly dependent on your genetic makeup and your age. If you do not have the “right” genetics, you will typically only be able to sustain low weight for a short period of time.
